1. How Color Quantization Works

This tool doesn't just randomly pick pixels. It uses an advanced algorithm known as Color Quantization (specifically the Median Cut algorithm). When you upload an image, the tool groups millions of individual pixels into visually similar clusters. It then calculates the mathematical average of the largest cluster to find your Dominant Color. It repeats this process to find the next 8 largest clusters, creating a perfectly cohesive, balanced color palette based on the actual visual weight of the photograph.

2. Working with Hexadecimal Codes

Colors on screens are rendered using Red, Green, and Blue light (RGB). However, in modern web development and graphic design (CSS, Photoshop, Illustrator), colors are usually referenced using Hexadecimal codes (e.g., #1A2B3C). Frequently Asked Questions

Why doesn't the palette include every single color in my image?

To provide a usable, cohesive palette, the algorithm limits the extraction to the 8 most structurally significant color clusters. If your image contains a tiny red dot in a massive blue sky, the red will likely be ignored in favor of the dominant blue and white shades.

What image formats are supported?

Because the tool relies on your browser's native rendering engine, you can safely upload any standard web image format, including JPEG, PNG, WebP, and static GIFs.

Is there a limit to how large an image I can upload?

There are no hard server limits. However, the Color Quantization algorithm is highly mathematically intensive. Uploading an enormous 4K photograph may cause your browser tab to temporarily freeze while it calculates the millions of pixels. For the fastest results, we recommend keeping images under 5MB.
